Multiple cars burglarized in an hour, MPD says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police are looking for thieves caught on camera breaking car windows and stealing cash.

Officers said the string of burglaries happened at six different homes in East Memphis on Saturday.

One of the victims said the suspects broke two of his car windows just for 10 dollars worth of change.

“I thought it was unusual, the guy leaned in and crawled over the top and he didn’t open the door,” said Jack Lane.

Moments later, another thief shattered another car window but he can’t get past the glass.

“I would’ve given the guy 10 dollars worth of change if they asked me rather than cause me 600-dollars worth of damage,” said Lane.

Lane said he was fast asleep inside his home off Walnut Grove Road when this happened.

Officers said the same suspects went across the street and broke into two other cars.

“They just go in, do it quick and get on to the next place and get out of here,” said Lane.

That same night, just a few minutes away, officers said thieves broke into cars off Mary Starnes Drive. The suspects were also caught on camera.

Then, farther down, more cars were broken into off Pandora Road.

“We are all in a bad situation here with COVID trying to get along trying to mend race relationships and its disheartening with people just treat other people with no respect,” said Lane.

Police are trying to figure out if all three suspects are connected to all the car break-ins.
