MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police have arrested a man for the murders of two people last week after a double shooting.
The shooting happened at the Fairview Inn and Suites on American Way Friday afternoon.
According to an affidavit, police found one victim, a man, lying in the lobby suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at 3:26 p.m.
Police later discovered another victim, a woman, dead from multiple gunshot wounds inside a 1997 Nissan Maxima with Nebraska tags.
Lamont Murry, 31, has been charged with two counts of First-Degree Murder and Tampering with/Fabricating Evidence.
He was seen on video surveillance fleeing the motel in a gold 2001 Chevy Tahoe, according to the affidavit.
Police found the Tahoe at a home in the 3000 block of Andy Road.
Murry was found hiding in the attic.
After the shooting, Murry had attempted to alter the Tahoe’s color with spray paint, according to the affidavit.
Murry told police the murders were gang retaliation for another double murder that happened on Aug. 14.
