Memphis, Tenn. — A man is behind bars and charged with two counts of First Degree Murder and Carjacking following a deadly encounter at the intersection of Gill Avenue and Pillow Street in South Memphis.
The Memphis Police Department says Jaylin Wright, 18, killed Markel Alexander, 50, and stole his BMW before abandoning the car at a different location.
According to an affidavit, Wright’s fingerprints were discovered in the BMW and he admitted to being in the victim’s car.
Police say Wright also admitted to having a gun and that Wright knew the location of the shooting, how many times Alexander was shot as well as the location of the bullet wounds and where the BMW had been ditched.
Surveillance video obtained during the investigation which recorded the murder shows Alexander being shot with an assault rifle, a similar looking weapon to a gun Wright admitted having hidden under his mom’s bed, police say.
