MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is dead after an early-morning shooting in South Memphis.
According to Memphis police, officers responded to the shooting in the 1700 block of Preston Street in South Memphis at 7:15 a.m. Monday.
The man was found shot dead on his front porch. Investigators have not said exactly when the shooting happened.
However, according to neighbors they heard shooting around 9:00 last night and didn’t think anything of it.
Brenda Bryant and Charles Wright told FOX13 the victim is their brother Herman Wright.
“I got three brothers and now I only have two. Like I said earlier Black lives do matter but in the case of who shot my brother it didn’t matter,” Bryant said.
FOX13 counted at least 20 evidence markers in the middle of the street to highlight the number of shell casings.
Neighbors said they noticed Herman’s lifeless body on his porch when day broke.
Bryant said it’s heartbreaking to know her brother’s death comes during a week when there’s supposed to be calm to senseless violence.
“Senseless violence, senseless violence. My brother is a 59 years old black male. What in the world? Who would want to bother him,” Bryant said.
Bryant sais she and her family have a simple message for their brother’s killer.
“Whoever shot my brother, you got the right family this time because we are going to find out who did this to my brother,” Bryant said.
Police said no suspect information is available at this time.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
