Homicide suspect taken into custody after 15 hour barricade situation, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police took a homicide suspect into custody after a 15-hour barricade situation at a Frayser apartment complex Friday.

Police tell FOX13 that one man, a 26-year-old homicide suspect, barricaded himself inside of an apartment at the Breezy Point Apartments around 7 a.m.

He was taken into custody around 10 p.m.

FOX13 spoke with Kathy Patillo who said she is the suspect’s grandmother.

Patillo asked investigators if she could try talking to her grandson in hopes of getting him out of the apartment.

“I believe I can touch him in some type of way. I really do,” she said. “I don’t want the police to go in there and do nothing to my grandson. I don’t want him to do nothing to himself. I just want to see if maybe I can talk to him, bring him out of there.”

As of 6 p.m. Friday, Patillo said she wasn’t given the chance to talk to him.

A section of Steele St. was blocked off for several hours on Friday, leaving many people unable to get to their homes.

“When I looked at it, my heart was beating fast,” William Gary, who lives nearby said. “I was wondering what was going on. We need peace in this neighborhood, not all this chaos.”

FOX13 noticed ATF agents arrive at the scene as well around 11:20 a.m.

SEE: FOX13 has photos from the scene.

Negotiators are on the scene attempting to get the suspect to come out.

Police were at the apartment serving arrest warrants.

Three people are currently detained, MPD said.

No one was been injured.
