Shelby County tax freeze, tax relief deadlines extended to May 6, officals say

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — On March 25 the Supreme Court of Tennessee issued an order which included an extension of certain statutory deadlines due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has determined this should apply to Tax Freeze and Tax Relief deadlines, according to a press release.

The new deadline for Tax Freeze/Tax Relief applicants to submit their Tax Freeze/Tax Relief application to the Trustee’s Office will be Wednesday, May 6.

Qualifying guidelines for these programs are:

Must be 65 years or older

Must be 65 years or older, or have a total & permanent disability rating (regardless of age), or qualify as a disabled veteran

Own and live in a home in Shelby County that is your primary residence

Combined income limit of $39,250 of applicant and their spouse and all other owners

Income of $29,860 or less (no income limit for veterans)
