Shelby County, Tenn. — COVID-19 has forced many people to make adjustments this year. And, making adjustments is something very familiar with people living with Down Syndrome, their loved ones and the Down Syndrome Association of the Memphis & the Mid-South.

Continuing with their tradition, the DSAM set out this year for its 23rd annual Step Up fundraiser to spread awareness about the many abilities of people with Down Syndrome. Only, this year the celebration was spread out with family picnics around the Mid-South area.

Many of the families celebrating loved ones with Down Syndrome took to Bert Ferguson Park in Cordova on Sunday.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the DSAM wasn’t able to provide food for the families. But, they did provide items to help families build their own picnic and merchandise to help support the annual fundraising STEP UP event.

That fundraising goes to help the Down Syndrome Association of Memphis & the Mid-South work towards social, educational and job inclusion along with tutoring and new legislative policy for people with Down Syndrome.
