NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Corrections is remembering those who were killed in the line of duty this month.

One year ago today Correctional Administrator Debra Johnson was found dead in her home near the West Tennessee State Penitentiary.

The TDOC will commemorate the day with a moment of silence at 8:10 a.m., according to a release from the Department.

Johnson joined the Department on Jan. 30, 1981 as a correctional officer.

TDOC is also remembering the sacrifice of another officer killed this month.

Correctional Officer Wayne “Cotton” Morgan was killed in the line of duty Aug. 9, 2005.

He was a 28-year TDOC veteran and U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War, according to the release.

A moment of silence will be observed for Officer Morgan on Sunday at 10 a.m.

A memorial breakfast and ceremony event began Friday morning at 7:45 a.m. at the Mark Luttrell Transition Center in Memphis.
