MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tennessee is expected to launch a new online COVID-19 vaccination portal.
The state Department of Health says the online portal will prevent people from being turned away at vaccination sites.
Health officials said some people have had to wait hours in line to get vaccinated only to be turned away because there weren’t enough doses left.
More than 215,000 COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered so far in Tennessee, about three percent of the state’s population.
More than 4,500 Tennesseeans have received second doses, according to the TDH.
Right now all 95 counties in the state are administering the vaccine to first responders, health care workers and residents in long-term care facilities, among others.
Tennessee has reported over 650,000 cases of COVID-19, including over 72,000 in Shelby County as of Sunday.
86 percent of those who tested positive for the virus have recovered, according to TDH.
