U.S. jobless claims fall below 1 million for first time since March
For the week ending Aug. 8, Tenn. paid over 267,000 unemployment claims.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The number jobless claims American workers has fallen below 1 million for the first time in five months, according to an AP report.

963,000 workers applied for unemployment aid last week.

The number of people applying for unemployment aid increased dramatically in March as many businesses were forced to shut down as the coronavirus pandemic intensified.

The state of Tennessee has processed 781,310 new unemployment claims since March 15, according to data released from the Tenn. Dept. of Labor and Workforce.

For the week ending Aug. 8, Tenn. paid over 267,000 claims.
