Woman arrested in ex-girlfriend’s shooting death in Parkway Village

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is charged with murder after the shooting death of another woman in Parkway Village.

The shooting happened Monday in the 2900 block of Watson Street around 7 p.m.

According to an affidavit, police found the victim lying in the street suffering from gunshot wounds.

She was rushed to Regional One, where she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses said a silver Dodge Nitro pulled up to the victim’s home.

The vehicle was identified as belonging to the victim’s ex-girlfriend, Jasmine Mathes, according to the affidavit.

Witnesses said they heard multiple gunshots as the victim walked toward Mathes vehicle.

The witnesses’ car was also shot.

Surveillance footage showed the Dodge Nitro fleeing the scene after the shooting, according to the affidavit.

On Feb. 3, Mathes was found sitting inside the vehicle in the 5800 block of Advantage Cove.

She was arrested and taken into the Homicide office.

Mathes told police she went to the victim’s home and shot her in the chest, then shot her again before fleeing the scene, according to the affidavit.

Mathes is charged with second-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
