FOX13 has learned that 24-year-old Pierre Cheer was taken into custody overnight.

Memphis police told FOX13 Cheer is now charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary.

1-year-old Payden Thompson was found safe, more than an hour after being kidnapped by her father.

Police said the suspect, Pierre Cheer, forced his way into a Westwood home and took the child at gunpoint.

Investigators said an officer was in the area of Union and Cleveland when he spotted a blue Mitsubishi Galant that matched the description of the suspect's vehicle. The officer followed the car into a nearby parking lot.

A man exited the passenger's side of the car and attempted to walk off with a child. Police said Cheer, who was driving the vehicle, then drove in reverse and hit the cop car, drove forward and hit a pole, and then continued through the parking lot and drove away.

The officer detained the man who had the child. That child was identified as Payden Thompson.

She was evaluated by police and was uninjured.

Pierre Cheer is still on the run. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

EARLIER STORY: A Memphis man forced his way into a Westwood home and kidnapped his young daughter at gunpoint, according to Memphis police.

Officers were called to a home in the 4000 block of Soapstone at 12:23 Thursday afternoon.

Police said Payden Thompson, 1, was being kept at her mother's home in the area. Her father, Pierre Cheer, forced his way into the home and kidnapped the toddler at gunpoint.

Police said the 24-year-old suspect fled in a blue 2004 Mitsubishi Galant with temporary tags. He did not have permission to take the child, according to police.

Payden Thompson is a black female. She has a light skin complexion, light brown hair and was wearing a brown dress with black trim.

Pierre Cheer is a black male. He is 5’8” and weighs approximately 180 lbs. He was wearing a white muscle shirt, gray shorts, and blue and black Jordans. He is armed with a handgun.

Officers are searching the area, and aviation and canine crews are assisting.

Memphis Police Department is working with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation  to issue an Amber Alert.
