• 8 SCS schools dismiss early after MLGW power outages, equipment repairs


    SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. - Six Shelby County Schools dismissed early due to power outages reported in the area.

    SCS told FOX13 they were able to start the school day anticipating power would be restored, but the decision to dismiss early has been made.


    Student were fed lunch before they were sent home.

    SCS staff remained on-site to ensure all children are picked up safely.

    Normal dismissal procedures applied and buses picked up at the following dismissal times:

    Dismissing at 10:30AM

    • Havenview MS
    • Westwood HS
    • Oakhaven HS
    • Oakhaven MS

    Dismissing at 11:30AM

    • Oakhaven ES
    • G.W. Carver HS
    • Vollentine ES

    Kirby High School also dismissed early at 11:15 a.m. This decision was made to make equipment repairs in the building.

    All of the schools that dismissed early Wednesday are expected to be open Thursday.
