Dramatic video shows moment wanted Memphis father was arrested in New Mexico

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A nine-year-old Memphis girl who was abducted by her father was located more than 1,000 miles away in Grants, New Mexico.

A missing person report was issued for Zamyriah White on Tuesday after her daughter forcefully took her from Northaven Elementary School in Memphis. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said the father, Brenton White, had previously made threats to harm himself, so the child was considered in danger.

Investigators with the Grants Police Department in New Mexico tracked White to a Sonic restaurant. Officers surrounded the vehicle, but White drove off.

A spike strip was deployed during the chase. Police had to break out a window to get to White once his vehicle came to a stop, and he tried to use the child as a shield when he got out of the vehicle, according to KRQE.

Zamyriah was not the only occupant in the car. Police said a 19-year-old woman and two unidentified children were also riding with White.

Brenton White is currently in custody on numerous warrants and charges related to the events in New Mexico.
