FAYETTE COUNTY, Tenn. — A man is dead after drowning in a pond in Fayette County, Tennessee.
Fayette County sheriff's deputies were called to a private pond off Coburn Way Road Friday evening. It was originally a rescue operation, but after the man was underwater for longer than an hour, it became a recovery mission.
Officials told FOX13 the man waded out into the water when things took a turn for the worse.
Chief Ricky Wilson told FOX13 a casting net was found by the body. He said there is a chance the man became entangled in the net, causing him to drown.
"If you don't know how to swim, stay out of the water," warned Chief Wilson. "Witnesses didn't know how to swim either. They waded out as far as they could."
The victims name has not been released, but FOX13 has learned he is in his 30's and from Mexico.
Officials said it will take some time for the next-of-kin to be notified.
