MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 2-year-old who was shot in the head Sunday night in Hickory Hill continues to fight for her life at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
The family told FOX13 they are confident Memphis police and the city will step up to find the person responsible.
For every minute that goes by, 2-year-old Laylah Washington’s family is praying she opens her eyes and returns to being the fun energetic baby girl they have grown to love.
“My niece is up there. People say she is fighting for her life but she is brain dead,” Laylah’s uncle Terry Washington said.
Laylah’s mother told FOX13 she is staying strong for her two sons and positive that Memphis police will put the pieces together in this investigation.
MPD said they continue the search for clues in the 6700 block of Winchester and on Kirby near World Overcomers Church where the car with Laylah, her mother and two older brothers was shot into Sunday night.
Washington said the family and police desperately need help with information to get the cold-hearted suspect off the street.
“Am I frustrated? Yes, I am because I want this over with. I pray these people have a heart,” Washington said.
Police told FOX13 they are hoping to receive more information about the black Chevrolet Impala the suspect was last seen in.
Detectives have been to many of the businesses on Winchester searching for any type of usable surveillance footage that will lead them to the suspect.
Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and Memphis police told FOX13 Laylah remains in extremely critical condition.
“I got some stuff going through my heart. Like I said I do forgive them, but another part of me, lord have mercy, I pray I never meet them,” Washington said.
Police continue to search for answers. If you have any information that can help in the investigation, you are asked to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
