MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is dead after his car slammed into a building in North Memphis.
It happened around 3:30 Monday morning at the corner of Chelsea and Carpenter.
The car burst into flames after crashing into the building, which in turn set part of the building on fire.
First responders attempted to save the driver, but he died on the scene.
Family members identified the victim as 39-year-old Patrick Turner of Whitehaven. His father said Turner was a "good guy" and worked as a cook at Golden Corral for 13 years.
Family said the 39-year-old stopped at a store on Chelsea to see a friend, but they aren't sure what happened after he left the store.
