MISSISSIPPI - A man suspected for murder in Tennessee was killed after a car chase ended with a crash and shootout in northern Mississippi.
That man has been identified as Eric Higgs, according to the Panola County coroner.
On Sunday, multiple sources told FOX13 Higgs was wanted for murder in Tennessee.
The Martin Police Department issue a BOLO for Eric D. Higgs last week, after a woman was found dead inside her home.
Monday afternoon, District Attorney John Champion confirmed the Eric Higgs killed in the shootout was the same man who was wanted for murder in Martin. He said Higgs was suspected of killing his wife.
Law enforcement picked up a tip that Higgs was near Hernando, Mississippi on Sunday, shortly after a license plate reader detected his license plate.
Higgs was involved in a three-car wreck and wiped out in the median between Como and Senatobia. The suspect and officers exchanged gunfire, and the suspect was killed.
One officer was hit, but he suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
