Sanitation worker union leadership is upset the city put these signs on the side of the trucks without their knowledge with the focus being on “I am Memphis” and not “I am a Man” which is the moniker they’ve lived by and take great pride in since the 1968 Sanitation strike.
Given the history of sanitation workers and the city government, this is a hotly debated and very sensitive issue for the sanitation workers.
Chief Investigative Reporter, Jim Spiewak, spoke with both sides about the decision to put up the new signs.
