CORDOVA, Tenn. — A killer is on the run tonight and Memphis Police need your help to get a killer off the streets.

Police said a gunman killed a man in The View at Shelby Farms Apartments in Cordova Tuesday morning.

More than 40 evidence markers were placed as detectives worked to comb through the details.

A man who lives next door to the apartment unit where police found the man's body outside of told FOX13's Jeremy Pierre what he saw and heard.

He didn't want his face shown or name used in case of retaliation.

He said this type of violence isn't the norm in the area.

"It was more than two- or three-gun shots. It sounded like the whole clip," the man said.

MPD said officers arrived on the scene just after 4 a.m.

Investigators couldn't confirm whether the man got shot inside the apartment unit or outside.

According to the Memphis Police online cyber watch, in the last three months officers have recorded more than 50 reports in less than a mile of the crime scene.

Most of the reports are theft-related.

Jeremy managed to speak to several other neighbors off-camera who told me they usually hear gunshots in the area.

"We hear gunshots over here all of the time. Folks got guns they will shoot them all night," the man said.

Investigators said they are hoping surveillance cameras in the area can help them locate the people responsible.

Investigators said they need as much as possible gathering information on this homicide investigation.

No one has been transported from the scene.
