Motorcycle scraps from Highway 51, pictures and a lifetime of memories are all Tucker and Chris Vermillion have to remember their father.
“You always hear people whose loved ones get taken away,” Chris Vermilion said. “Yeah, it’s sad, but you kind of – in the back of your mind – you’re always like well luckily you know that will never happen to my family. ‘Til it does happen.”
Their dad was killed after a hit-and-run accident Tuesday at 5 a.m. while he was on his way to work.
“First is the grief, and then the anger steps in,” Tucker Vermillion said. “We will literally do anything to find these people.”
Riding motorcycles was a family activity for the Vermillions. Tommy Vermillion had been riding motorcycles his entire life.
“He was always happiest when he was on his bike,” Chris Vermillion said.
Neighbors and friends have been bringing the Vermillions cards and food to comfort the family.
Chris and Tucker are still trying to process the loss, but they have a message for the person who took their father’s life.
“You have your family, and we don’t,” Tucker Vermillion said. “You still get to go home to your family members, and you get to hug them and you get to give them kisses and talk to them when something is wrong and we lost that. We don’t have that person to speak to anymore.”
