• Two arrested in double shooting at Northeast Memphis motel

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Two people are facing charges after a double shooting at The Welcome Inn Wednesday. 

    Memphis police responded to the 5200 block of Summer Ave.

    Police said Kedarius Lamont Franklin was the shooter and woman, Morgan Baldwin, was his getaway driver. 

    Officers said Baldwin first told her Franklin was holding her against her will after she took him to the motel for a drug deal. She said he got spooked and ended up shooting and the victims, Eric Smith and David Gatewood. 

    A witness told officers one of the victims fell as he was running away, and Franklin chased him down, stood over top of him, and fired multiple shots at point blank range. 

    MPD said Baldwin later admitted she was not being held against her will. Both were taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, among other charges. 

    MPD said the incident was captured on surveillance video. 

    The two victims are expected to be ok.
