• Two in custody following double shooting near the University of Memphis


    MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Two suspects are in police custody following a double shooting near the University of Memphis this weekend.

    MPD told FOX13 Mario Simpson and Mardracus West are behind bars following the incident.

    Darrell Martin and his cousin were both shot near Mynders Avenue and Brister Street Saturday morning.

    Both victims were shot several times, and one of them is still in the hospital recovering after being shot in the face.

    The shooting took place after the men went to a party a block away from U of M, according to family members.

    A mother is thankful and yet hurt to see her son in so much pain.

    “I thank God I’m not making other arrangements,” said Mattie Martin, mother of one of the victims.

    The University of Memphis did send out safety alert notifying students, faculty and staff of the shooting.
