Two Memphis businesses robbed Sunday night

MPD investigating after two overnight business robberies

MEMPHIS, Tn. — Police are investigating two robberies that happened Sunday night in Whitehaven and Orange Mound.

According the Memphis Police Department, the two robberies happened within the 8 p.m. hour and both businesses are within 15 minutes of each other.

The first robbery took place around 8:10 p.m. at a Dollar General store on the 2200 block of Lamar Ave. in Orange Mound.

Police told FOX13, a female clerk was sweeping near the front of the store when a man wearing a bandana and black hoodie walked up to her saying "Give me the money."

The robber stayed on the checkout side of the register as the employee tried to hand over money inside a yellow Dollar General bag. The suspect ran after taking an undetermined amount of money.

Just over a half-hour later, a Rite Aid pharmacy was robbed in the 4200 block of Elvis Presley Boulevard.

Police tell FOX13, a female cashier was rounding up carts in the parking lot when a man in a red hoodie, blue jeans and brown boots grabbed the employee, a female, by her hair and slammed her to the ground.

That suspect then pulled a knife on the woman and demanded money.

At this time, it’s unclear if police have made any arrests in these robberies.
